Bullfighting is closely related to flamenco and like flamenco; the leading performers in both are gypsies and both play an important part in Spain’s culture. The bullring in Ronda is one of the oldest in Spain and is considered the spiritual home of bullfighting. The museum here is dedicated to the Romero family’s illustrative career, a family that Hemingway speaks frequently of in his work, Death in the Afternoon. This staircase was mesmerizing; through the use of azulejo tile, it tells the story of the life of the bull. Bulls are not trained to fight and once they have been in the ring, they can never fight again because he is smart and knows what will happen. These stairs show the idyllic setting of the young bull.
