Description
Flamenco Trio – A typical modern flamenco group consists of a cantaor (singer), bailora (dancer) and guitarist.
Flamenco songs gain their meaning from how the cantaor shapes them through improvisation; hence there is no set music. The guitarist’s accompaniment must follow where the singer leads. The modern flamenco guitar has been around since the 1870s. Its origin was a four-string instrument, a blend of an Egyptian string instrument, a kithara asiria, and the Moors’ guitarra morisca, A fifth string was added in the ninth century and the sixth string in the 1790s.
This was our first flamenco show; it was interesting how these performers led the crowd through the rituals of flamenco. I didn’t understand anything they said but the meaning was clear and their emotion added to a better understanding of flamenco.
