I collect them!
I’m a photographer so it is natural to always have a camera with me. When I don’t carry my big camera, I have my iPhone.
I photograph everything that catches my eye. Then I use Adobe Lightroom to manage my growing collection of images. I can then quickly scan my collections to get images or spark ideas.
There are other times when the inspiration is simply serendipitous. Looking through images from a hot air balloon festival, it hit me that the balloons would be great subject matter for our current show, Adrift. I needed images of them drifting though and I hadn’t seen that yet. I am not a morning person, but I got up at 4:30 am to drive 45 minutes to be at the field at sunrise. I got there before the balloonists and enjoyed a lovely sunrise.
There weren’t many spectators; there was plenty of space to photograph all the bright colors and activity. One by one, the balloons gently lifted from the ground and floated east toward the sunrise. In less than 30 minutes, the field was empty and quiet.
Was it worth the effort? You bet! I was home by 8:00 am with over 200 new images, ready for a few more hours of sleep.
