I hate to have my picture made! The weight, the sagging jowls…and my expression always shows the panic I feel at the mention of moving in front of the camera from being behind it.
Visual Art Exchange is having a show for July called You Do You. This is my chance to put my fears behind me, I think.
I teach a photography camp at Page Walker in Cary, NC every summer. We go on some interesting field trips and I learn a lot from my campers. This year we went to NCSU campus to visit the Free Expression Tunnel and Hunt Library and took a detour to explore Harrelson Hall. Harrelson Hall is the round building on the BrickYard where math and history are taught. It is slated to be torn down because it is not only old but very impractical. I’d never been in the building and really want to experience it before it’s gone. The camp director spent most of graduate school in there so she took us on a tour. I was surprised to learn that my campers had never seen a chalkboard! They had so much fun playing with it! The building is traversed via ramps – it’s a giant spiral. At the top is a student lounge, the campers reminded me how to take a panoramic with my phone; it looks like a space station!
