In Greek mythology, trees are inhabited by nymphs, female spirits, called Dryads. The nymphs find a tree that fits them spiritually and they become tied to that tree for life; they have a supernaturally long life. When their tree dies, they die. Dryads are very shy creatures and they never wander far from their individual tree. This little one lives in a dogwood tree in my neighborhood. I was struck by its peaceful, knowing expression.
Every time I pass this cedar, I see a mountain goat. I enjoyed watching the mountain goats in Yellowstone and in Colorado, now I have one close to home.
