When I was little, my brother and I would spend hours during the summer trying to catch a chipmunk. We knew where his hole was and would try to scare him out the other end! I would love to have a pet chipmunk in my back yard, instead I have squirrels, bunnies, possum, mice, and even rats but no chipmunks.
Glacier National Park has a beautiful lake on the southern side of the park. We were able to hike to it when we were there in June several years ago, most of the park was still closed due to snow. I had a wonderful time photographing all the chipmunks. They were far too tame but not tame enough to touch.
When we were in Colorado, my daughter surprised me. She and Jimmy took me for a hike around a small park and at the mid-way point was a chipmunk colony! People are actually encouraged to feed the little guys – they will eat out of your hand! My kids are wildlife biologist and frown heavily on feeding the wild life so I wasn’t allowed to do that but I did get a lot of pictures.
