When I was at Meredith College, I took a wonderful watercolor class with Patricia Savage. Her technique of layering color was difficult but I loved the result. After graduating from NCSU, I got restless doing only photography so I did a Google search to see if she was teaching anywhere. I found the Certification in Botanical Illustration at UNC as a result. The program requires a lot of courses before you can take watercolor. Since I love illustration, that was fine with me! I finished the program in 2011.
Drawing from life takes me a long time. (I’ve gotten bifocals now so it might be easier!) I began photographing my source material for botanical studies which lead to taking pictures of plants for pure enjoyment. My interest in fairy lore goes hand in hand with botany. The Wee Ones live in the most interesting places and use flowers for the most interesting purposes!
